The dawn of a new era..

What? An update? Strange, I know. I've been busy behind the scenes, working on Kaaosa.com: Version 9. A few features this new version will have are as follows:

Complete linking of all kaaosa.com subsites

Ability to save your GSPID to your profile to allow for shorter image links.

Ability to send messages to other users via the site

Greater customization to both the Metroid and Animal Crossing images

This is just a small taste of the things I have planned for the site. I'd also like to hear suggestions from all of you as to what you would like to see in Version 9.

More integration..

You know how if you read a news post on the Turnip market or the MP:H stats page, to make or read comments you have to come back here? Well, I'm thinking I want to make it so that you can view/make comments from those pages. At least until Kaaosa.com version 9 makes its debut (enjoy the Goombas while you can).

Messaging feature in the works

Since I started the Turnip Market, several users have suggested that I add a messaging feature to it. Well, I can't say I'm very prompt with the updates, but I have begun working on something. I won't give any sort of timetable or deadline, since I'll never meet it, but it might just be done before February is over. Maybe.

That was fast..

So I got around to fixing the Metroid stats today. It took me about 5 minutes. I don't know how it got broken but it was easy to fix. Now that I"m in the mood to do some work with my sites, maybe I'll actually get some of those updates I promised done.

Confession...

So I haven't even looked at the code for the Metroid images yet. I just had to come clean. You see, I bought Guitar Hero 1 and 2 two days ago, and now all my free time is devoted to playing it. I've even taken a break from World of Warcraft.

I'm thinking that once I beat hard on both of them, that might break my addiction somewhat, so I'll get back to fixing the images after that. I hope. However, GANNONSMASH has informed me that it may be Nintendo's fault, so I might not even have to do anything. Awesome.

Metroid Stats Down

Yes, I've noticed that the Metroid profile images aren't working. I am working on fixing them, but I'm not quite sure what the problem is yet. As soon as I figure out what it is that caused them to stop working, I should be able to fix them quickly. Thank you to everyone who alerted me to the problem, and I apologize for the downtime. I'll keep you posted.

About the downtime..

If anyone noticed, Kaaosa.com and all the subsites of it were down for a little while this morning. I forgot to pay for another year with the kaaosa.com domain so everything died for a little bit. I did pay though, so now, as you can see, everything is back! I'll try to remember to pay before it expires next year.

I wonder what Google thinks of the site

You know, I have to wonder, if the computers at Google that index my site for these context-based ads were to put Kaaosa.com into a definitive category, what would it be? Thanks to the shoutbox and lack of content, I've seen everything from ads for gay sex to ads for military gear. More than once, they've been side by side. I hope the other four people who come here regularly are getting as much of a kick out of it as I am.

Google ads

Yeah, I finally joined the rest of the internet and added some Google ads to the site. Why? I'm not entirely sure. I'm not so foolish to think that my little experiments are getting so much traffic that this will give me any sort of income, but I decided what the hell, I'll do it. Thus far, I've made a whopping ten cents. Too bad I won't see any of it until I earn $100, as that's when Google sends out the checks.

Well, I hope nobody is disappointed in me for selling out or anything like that, but if you are, I'll get over it.

ACWW Turnip Market now similarly linked

Just as I did with the Metroid Prime: Hunters Image Profiles, I've begun linking the ACWW Turnip Market with Kaaosa.com. Relevant updates from Kaaosa.com will be visible on the Turnip Market site and user accounts from there will be usable across the network for any future endeavors Kaaosa.com should take on.

Also, a number of users have emailed me to let me know that the ACWW profile images are not displaying names. I am actively working to fix this bug, but I cannot say when it will be fixed, because I hadn't changed anything when it began (and so I have no real idea what might be causing the problem), and nothing I've tried chaning thus far has worked. I'll keep you all updated.

EDIT: Ha! Fixed it. Profile images are once again functioning as they should.

lol internet

I tried setting up the MP:H image profiles to add entries to the spy page on Kaaosa.com, but the page had to update so fast that it kept breaking. So, I removed that and I'll get around to it later. I definitely want to get it working. It was pretty cool each time I checked it, to see how fast things were moving.. until it broke each time. Oh well. I'll make it happen sometime.

Updates to come

So I'm getting back in tot he swing of things with these images, and I'm wondering what I should update next. I've taken a look through my old code, and it's a bit embarassing. The first thing I might do is rewrite the whole thing. If I do that, when it's finished I want to try developing an interface to allow users to customize all aspects of their image profiles, from positioning of individual elements to colors to size. That's going to be a pretty big undertaking, but I think I can do it. I think it's something that's been due for a while as well. If any of you out there who are using the images have any suggestions, let me know; I am building these for you guys, after all!

Linking the Kaaosa.com network

So I decided to make Kaaosa.com a centralized hub sort of thing for all the sites I run. To start that process, I made it so that the news at http://metroid.kaaosa.com is the same as the news in the metroid category here. I'm going to do that for http://turnips.kaaosa.com as well. Then I'm gonna do a bunch of stuff to make running them easier for me. You people won't see that stuff though. That stuff is just for me.

RSS..

So I think my next task, aside from the always daunting task of creating content for this site, is going to be to make a RSS generator for this site. No, it's not so immensely popular or informative that people are going to want to have the latest tripe from kaaosa.com at their fingertips, but I've got nothing better to do with this site. It'll give me something to do in between working on The ACWW Turnip Market and those Metroid Prime: Hunters images.

Oh, and nice try to those of you who tried sneaking around and guessing subdomains, but I'm sorry to inform you that mariokart.kaaosa.com doesn't exist, and probably never will. Same goes for tetris.kaaosa.com. Keep searching though; you might just find something.

Remember Nintendo's console code-named the "Ultra"? That name was so cool! Now they changed it to the "64" I can't believe what Nintendo has regressed to. And look at that controller! I DON'T HAVE THREE HANDS. How am I supposed to play that thing!? What will my parents think when I ask them, "can I have a 64?" "Sixty-four what?" This console will never work.

Messing around with the scriptaculous library. Using it make make the transition between showing and hiding comments a little smoother. Also, for no reason, I made it so you can sort the menu list. It doesn't save between page loads, so it's pretty much useless, and I'll most likely disable that later.

I just checked the site on one of the computers here on campus, and the background comes out as this gross, greyish-green. Did it look like that for anyone reading this? It looked like a regular grey on my computer. Oh well. I decided that I'd think of another color scheme some time today so that I don't vomit every time I come to the site on a computer in the Computer Science lab (which is where I do all my coding away from home). Whee.
I really don't want to go to Calculus right now..
